About the Treasury of Knowledge Collection

The Treasury of Knowledge is an encyclopedic work by Jamgön Kongtrul Lodro Tayé (1813-1900), representing a comprehensive compilation of Buddhist teachings preserved in Tibet. This collection consists of ten books, each addressing different aspects of Buddhist doctrine and practice.

The first four books provide historical context, covering cosmology, the life of the Buddha, his teachings, and their dissemination in ancient India and Tibet. The fifth volume explores the integration of monastic, bodhisattva, and mantra vows. The following three books (volumes six through eight) delve into the development of discriminative awareness through study, reflection, and meditation. Lastly, the ninth and tenth volumes present Kongtrul's syncretic analysis of the spiritual paths and goals reached through both causal and fruition vehicles of Buddhist practice. The collection is framed by an introduction and a conclusion, which provide context for the ten works included.
